FAIRFAX, VA - Sean Perryman’s campaign for Lt. Governor of Virginia announced the endorsement of Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano on Thursday. Descano was elected in 2019 on a platform of progressive criminal justice reform and serves Fairfax County, the largest county in the Commonwealth and a Democratic stronghold that is critical in any candidate’s path to victory in the race for Lt. Governor. Descano’s endorsement follows a string of recent influential endorsements for the Perryman campaign from elected officials and community leaders across Virginia.

“I’m proud to endorse my friend Sean Perryman for Lt. Governor because I know that Sean will fight for a more just and equitable commonwealth where no Virginian is left behind because of the color of their skin, size of their bank account, or where they’re from,” said Descano. “Sean is a passionate criminal justice reformer who understands that Virginia must lead the way in addressing the scourge of mass incarceration. I encourage my fellow Virginians to join me in doing everything I can to make Sean Perryman our next lieutenant governor.”

“I am honored to receive the backing of Steve Descano,” said Sean Perryman. “Steve’s comprehensive vision for the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office in Fairfax has been barrier-breaking, and he and I share many of the same values when it comes to reimagining and restructuring our institutions of public safety so they can better serve all Virginians. His endorsement is a testament to the fact that our campaign is the campaign for those who want to push the criminal justice reform and racial justice movements forward.”

Descano’s endorsement is one of nine that the Perryman campaign has rolled out within the past week alone, including Delegate Cliff Hayes and local elected officials from Hampton Roads. The Perryman campaign continues to grow and gain momentum as he builds a diverse coalition of supporters across Virginia who share his vision for a government and economy that works for all Virginians rather than the powerful few.

Sean Perryman is President Emeritus of the Fairfax County Chapter of the NAACP, a technology public policy advocate, attorney, and former congressional investigator. If elected he would become one of the youngest Lt. Governors in Virginia history.
