FAIRFAX, VA – Sean Perryman’s campaign for Lieutenant Governor announced its first labor union endorsement on Friday, receiving the backing of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 252. AFGE Local 252 represents Department of Education employees across the country and played a pivotal role in standing up to former Secretary of Education Betsy Devos’s anti-worker policies under the Trump Administration.
“I’m extremely proud to receive the endorsement of AFGE Local 252,” said Perryman. “Labor unions are the best way for workers to join together and win in the struggle for economic justice and a fair workplace. Local 252 has been instrumental in fighting against the unlawful union-busting and unfair labor practices of the Trump-Devos education department. My campaign will always be a strong advocate for the right of workers to collectively bargain for better pay, conditions, and benefits, and that won’t change after we win the race for Lt. Governor.”
“Sean Perryman expressed genuine concern and empathy over the union-busting/anti-worker practices our Local endured during the Department of Education’s previous administration. He understands that threats to unions are tantamount to threats to our democracy. Our Local was impressed by Sean’s commitment to workers’ rights and demonstrated efforts to correct unfair practices.” AFGE Local 252 President Sheria Smith.
The announcement comes the same week the Perryman campaign rolled out its first campaign ad “Path Forward.” Perryman reported raising a formidable $206,000 in 2020 and has rolled out over 60 endorsements from elected officials, faith leaders, and policy advocates, putting him in the front of a crowded Democratic primary field.
Sean Perryman is President Emeritus of the Fairfax County Chapter of the NAACP, a technology public policy advocate, attorney, and former congressional investigator. If elected he would become one of the youngest Lt. Governors in Virginia history.
